CATAWBA ISLAND, Ohio — On March 1, at around 10:30 p.m., a serious car crash took place on State Route 53, just north of State Route 163 in Catawba Island Township.
Robert Sotka, age 49, of Westlake, Ohio was driving southbound on State Route 53 when the crash occurred.
While making a left hand turn, Mr. Sotka struck a guardrail and reentered the roadway several times before the vehicle became completely disabled, blocking the entire southbound lane of State Route 53.
Mr. Sotka’s passenger, Gerard Loftus, age 64, of Broadview Heights, Ohio sustained serious injuries and was life flighted from the scene to Toledo ProMedica Hospital.
Although both passengers were wearing their seatbelts, alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash and is currently under investigation.
