According to the Political Economy Research Institutue at the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Amherst, seven companies based out of Ohio rank among the top-100 worst contributors to greenhouse gas pollution in the United States.
The seven companies include notable Ohio agencies such as FirstEnergy and Buckeye Power Company.

- American Electric Power (No. 5)
- FirstEnergy (No. 15)
- Marathon Petroleum (No. 16)
- Ohio Valley Electric (No. 55)
- Buckeye Power Co (No. 73)
- Murray Energy (No. 79)
- Cleveland-Cliffs (No. 83)
The report from UMASS Amherst comes as newly-inaugurated President Biden takes quick action against climate change and pollution in the United States, recently canceling the Keystone Pipeline, and rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement.
President Biden also recently nominated Michael Regan to fill the open position of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator. Regan has previously been applauded for his work to hold polluters accountable.
