SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, Breona Taylor, George Floyd. The list of black lives claimed by police officers goes on. On Monday, a group of local children decided to honor those who have lost their lives with a chalk memorial.
Belvoir Oval in Shaker Heights is now lined in chalk with the names of the African-Americans killed by police. Accompanying the names are their ages, date killed and home state.
3News was informed that most of the writing was done by children.
The memorial comes on the heels of countless demonstrations across the nation in honor of George Floyd, a black man killed in police custody in Minnesota. The protests and marches have since blossomed into rallies against police brutality and other racial injustices.
