MANSFIELD, Ohio — Snow Trails is back open on Friday after being forced to suspend operations in late December due to the above-average temperatures.
The Mansfield ski resort, located at 3100 Possum Run Rd., temporarily suspended operations on Dec. 27. Nate Wolleson, marketing manager at Snow Trails, called the closure “frustrating for everyone.”
The perfect temperature to make snow ideal skiing, snowboarding, and tubing is 29 degrees. It takes 72 hours to make enough to cover the full terrain, and it's finally getting cold enough for the snow to stay.
Snow Trails announced that they are opening the slopes for skiing and snowboarding on Friday from noon to 9 p.m. Tubing will remain closed for now.
The resort posted a statement to its website saying, “Our Snowmakers and Snow Groomers have been taking advantage of every opportunity to blanket the Resort in the best possible snow conditions, despite limited windows of Snowmaking hours. Please know we may need to maximize Snowmaking Campaigns as we go along.”
Visitors are asked to be prepared and come with goggles and face covers. The Snow Trails Ski Shop has gear for those who need to buy anything.
