STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A 23-year-old Canton man has died following a crash around 6:45 a.m. Friday on Route 172 near Route 93 in which authorities say he was fleeing Massillon police “at a high rate of speed.”
Authorities with the Canton post of the Ohio Highway Patrol say Joshua Hazzard was driving a Honda Civic westbound on state Route 172 when he lost control and drove off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a mail box and two utility poles.
Hazzard, who authorities say was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The situation remains under investigation.
