STARK COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities in Stark County are asking for the public’s help in finding a driver who allegedly fled the scene after striking a 4-year-old boy who was playing in the street.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 8 p.m. Monday night when a dark-colored, four-door sedan was traveling westbound in the 15500 block of Greenbower Street Northeast in Lexington Township.

The boy was taken to Aultman of Alliance Hospital by his parents, but authorities say he was later transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

While the make and model of the vehicle were not reported, authorities say it “may have sustained damage to the right-front passenger’s side of the body, including a broken headlight lens.”

Anybody with information is urged to call the Stark County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 330-430-3823. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling 330-451-3937.

“This is a tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family,” said Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier. “It is our foremost priority to get to the bottom of what happened, and I assure our community that we will continue to utilize every resource to do just that. We urge the public to come forward with any information that may assist with this ongoing investigation.”
