NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Cleveland Division of the FBI, along with several other state and local agencies, have announced the arrest of a North Canton man on numerous weapons violations related to the discovery of 'ghost guns.'
In a release, the suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Christopher Machamer. Machamer is a former MLB prospect of the Boston Red Sox organization and the 2016 Gatorade Ohio Baseball Player of the Year for the Massillon Tigers.
Machamer was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
- Receiving or Possessing an NFA (National Firearms Act) Firearm not Registered to the Possessor in the NFRTR,
- Manufacturing a Firearm in Violation of NFA
The charges above stem from a search warrant executed by law enforcement officials last Thursday in which several untraceable firearm and firearm related parts/accessories were found in Machamer's possession.
At least 10 AR-15 style weapons and dozens of AR-15 style parts were found featuring no serial numbers or serial numbers that had been scratched out or defaced. The FBI adds that a drill press and two "Ghost Gunner" brand CNC mills were found on Machamer's property with aluminum shavings nearby that could have been used to remove serial numbers from weapons.
A search warrant was also executed at Machamer's parents' house. During the search, investigators found a safe owned by Machamer. In that safe, investigators discovered the following:
- 5 AR-15 style rifles
- 2 short barrel shotguns
- 6 handguns
- 8 suppressors
- 1 AK-47 style lower receiver
- $3,000 in cash
Machamer made an appearance in court on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing.
