MASSILLON, Ohio — A man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting at the Regal Massillon movie theater.
The incident happened on Friday, May 10, at 11:47 p.m. inside of the movie theater. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man who had multiple gunshot wounds lying on the floor near the front lobby of the theater. Massillon police say that the man had no signs of life.
The victim has since been identified as 27-year-old Daron Davis, of Canton.
3News later saw police escorting people from the building on Cherry Road Northwest as the investigation began.
According to Massillon police, the suspect fled the scene after the shooting but was later taken into custody at the Massillon Police Department.
The suspect, who has been identified as 20-year-old Corvon Thomas, was charged with murder and felonious assault.
3News reached out to Regal Cinemas about the incident and received the following statement.
“We received confirmation of an incident at our Massillon theatre on Friday, May 10, and we are currently working with local authorities regarding the investigation. Our primary concern is for the safety and security of our guests and staff.”
In an update on Monday afternoon, Massillon police said that a bystander was also hurt during the incident, but has non-life-threatening injuries.
Massillon police noted that the situation was not an "active shooter incident." At this time, the shooting remains under investigation.
