MASSILLON, Ohio — A portion of Lincoln Way (State Route 172) is closed in downtown Massillon due to a partial collapse of two buildings.
In an email to 3News, Massillon Safety Service Director Barb Sylvester explained that the back wall of the buildings at 14 and 20 Lincoln Way East broke down last Friday.
"We conducted inspections today (Wednesday) and by order of our fire chief and chief building inspector, we are in the process of immediate demolition due to imminent danger of collapse," Sylvester added.
Sylvester says the city's aim is to get the two buildings safely to the ground as soon as possible.
While the city works to get the buildings demolished, Lincoln Way will be closed from 3rd Street SE to 1st Street SW effective immediately and until further notice. Drivers are asked to please follow the posted detour signs.
