CANTON, Ohio — Stark County Sheriff's deputies on Thursday arrested a bank robbery suspect less than 30 minutes after the alleged crime took place.
Officials say the crime occurred at the KeyBank on Cleveland Avenue Southwest in Canton Township around 12:15 p.m. Just before 12:42 p.m., officials located 65-year-old Rickey Hampton at an apartment on Alan Page Drive Southeast in the city of Canton, and he was taken into custody "without incident."
Court records show Hampton has previously served multiple years behind bars for crimes such as aggravated robbery, receiving stolen property, and vandalism. He is now being held in the Stark County Jail on yet another charge of aggravated robbery, which with a conviction could result in up to 21 more years in prison due to his past history.
"I want to commend the quick response and investigative skills of our Stark County Sheriff's Office Deputies and 911 Dispatchers involved in bringing this case to a quick and safe resolution," Sheriff George T. Maier said in a statement.
