STARK COUNTY, Ohio — Editor's note: The video in the player above is from a previously published, unrelated story.
Officials with the Stark County Sheriff's office are warning of a scam today that looks to target residents and possibly their bank accounts.
According to officials, the law enforcement agency has received several calls from residents within the area, saying that someone had reached out to them, claiming to work in the Stark County Sheriff's Office and inquiring about an "urgent matter."
Sheriff George T. Maier says that the department would never call residents to request any types of payments or funds, and would like to remind citizens that they should be on guard when it comes to these types of scams.
If you receive a call, do not give any financial information and report any suspicious activity to your local police department or county sheriff's office.
For more information or to report a potential scam, contact the Stark County Sheriff’s Office at (330) 430-3800 or the Tip Line at (330) 451-3937.
