CLEVELAND — The Uniontown Police Department on Saturday afternoon urged certain residents of the Stark County community stay in their homes as they attempt to detain a man they say is armed and making threats.
"We do have a white male, dark hoodie and mask on foot with a firearm," the department said in a Facebook post at 12:35 p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, the Summit County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 48-year-old Akron man Raymond Klisz. He is charged with possessing weapons under disability, violation of a protection order, inducing panic, menacing and criminal mischief. As of 11 a.m. Sunday, the Akron man's whereabouts are unknown.
According to the sheriff's office, Klisz had allegedly been involved in an altercation with another at a home in the Summit County city of Green, allegedly violating an order of protection against him. Authorities say he ran into a wooded area when deputies arrived.
Klisz later allegedly fled near a Uniontown Community Park, forcing the evacuation of the park and a plea from Uniontown police for area residents to stay inside and lock their doors.
Uniontown Police assisted the Summit County Sheriff's Office in attempting to apprehend the suspect. At 6:46 p.m. Saturday, the department said the Summit County SWAT team has discontinued the search but deputies and Uniontown police "will continue patrolling the surrounding areas for him."
Klisz stands approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 155 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information on Klisz's location is asked to call the Summit County Sheriff's Office at 330-643-2181.
Police said they would update the public "as soon as he is apprehended."
