AKRON, Ohio — A man has been arrested following a standoff that happened Monday in Akron.
According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, 41-year-old James Swisher was arrested after deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant at a residence on Elma Street.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw three males outside the home, including Swisher. Two of the males spoke to deputies while Swisher went inside the residence.
Of those two males, officers arrested 56-year-old George Sport of Akron, who also had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.
While attempting to get Swisher out of the residence, additional Summit County Sheriff’s deputies, detectives and Akron Police Officers responded to the scene, as did the Summit County Sheriff’s SWAT Team Hostage Negotiation Team and Drone Team.
Officials say that after obtaining a search warrant for the residence and a four-hour standoff, the Sheriff's SWAT Team made entry into the home and located Swisher hiding in the basement.
According to officials, Swisher was charged with the following:
- Trafficking in drugs
- Having a weapon while under disability
- Domestic violence
- Assault
- Possession of drugs
Swisher is currently being held in the Summit County Jail.
