AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and Akron police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed on Thursday night.
Akron police say they initially responded to a one-car crash near South Main Street and West Miller Avenue on Thursday night. When they arrived, they found a victim inside the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
Based on preliminary information, officers believe that the victim was sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Tasty Carry Out on West Long Street when an unknown suspect shot him "following a dispute." Police say that the victim drove a short distance before crashing his car.
The victim, who has since been identified as Akron resident Jamar E. Franklin, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m.
According to officials, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting. The vehicle was later found abandoned a few blocks away.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
