AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and Akron police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed on Thursday night.
Akron police say they initially responded to a one-car crash near South Main Street and West Miller Avenue on Thursday night. When they arrived, they found a victim inside the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
Based on preliminary information, officers believe that the victim was sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Tasty Carry Out on West Long Street when an unknown suspect(s) shot him. Police say that the victim drove a short distance before crashing his car.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m.
According to officials, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting. The vehicle was later found abandoned a few blocks away.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
