June 30, 2015: Jamall Vaughn receives a life sentence for his role in the deaths of a New Franklin couple.

AKRON -- Jamall Vaughn, 16, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for his role in the murders of New Franklin couple Jeffrey Schobert, 56, and Margaret Schobert, 59.

Vaughn, of Akron, will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years.

In April 2103, Vaughn, along with co-defendant Shawn Ford, broke into the Schobert's home. Ford then used a sledgehammer to beat the couple to death.

"The viciousness of this crime was shocking. Vaughn had the opportunity to either stop Ford or walk away. But he did neither," said Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. "The brutal nature of these crimes, especially when Vaughn had the ability to save the Schoberts' lives, is disturbing. I thank the jurors and Judge Parker for ensuring justice for the Schoberts and their family."

In February, Vaughn pled guilty on four counts, including two counts of aggravated murder.

On Monday, Shawn Ford was sentenced to death. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tom Parker set an execution date of Dec. 29, 2015.
