AKRON, Ohio — With the holiday season upon us, Summit County officials are bringing back the "Arrive Alive" program to help keep residents safe on the roadways.
Arrive Alive features free or reduced fare rides home for county residents who go out and drink alcohol during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The campaign coincides with National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.
Summit County residents who need a ride home because they decide to drink alcohol during the Christmas or New Year’s Eve holidays can use a Lyft code for a free or reduced fare ride home (up to $20) during the following periods:
- From 6 p.m. on Dec. 22 through noon on Dec. 26, use the Christmas Lyft code SUMMITXMAS23
- From 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 through noon on Jan. 2, use the New Year Lyft code SUMMITNYE24
This offer is only good for those who live in Summit County and there are 600 one-time use codes for each holiday period.
Arrive Alive was launched in Summit County during the July 4th, 2018 holiday weekend. Since then, nearly 4,000 people have used the service.
“Far too often people get behind the wheel after drinking thinking they can drive. That is wrong! Any amount of alcohol can reduce your reaction time and thought process. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE – USE ARRIVE ALIVE,” said Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. “I do not want tragedy to ruin a family’s holiday celebration. Arrive Alive provides a safe way to get home and not put people in danger. I urge people to reserve their Arrive Alive code early and don’t forget to use it,” said Prosecutor Walsh.
