BARBERTON, Ohio — The city of Barberton is closing some streets this weekend in an effort to assist businesses during Ohio’s reopening process.
The following street closures will be in effect from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21 through Saturday, May 23:
- West Tuscarawas Avenue between 3rd Street NW and 6th Street NW.
- West Park Avenue from 2nd Street NW to the alley.
These closures will give downtown Barberton locations the opportunity to expand their capacities with outdoor street seating amid social distancing and occupancy restrictions.
“Our downtown businesses are the heartbeat of our community, and we want to see your business succeed throughout the duration of this pandemic and be there to help you through these unprecedented times,” officials said in a letter to businesses.
This will be a soft opening for downtown businesses, but city officials said additional events are being discussed and more information will be released in the near future.
“As the state continues to institute their reopening plan, my administration is excited to continue to work with the local businesses and help boost our local economy any way we can, while following all orders and recommendations,” Barberton Mayor William Judge said.
