BARBERTON, Ohio — Barberton Middle School went into a “soft lockdown” Tuesday morning after officials say they received a message containing a bomb threat and other violent threats from an anonymous source.
The threat was only directed at Barberton Middle School.
School officials say the Barberton Police Department responded to the situation immediately and launched an investigation.
“Following all procedures and protocols, a thorough investigation of the building and its premises was conducted and it was determined that the threat was not credible,” according to a Facebook post from Barberton Middle School, which also declared the school is safe.
The school day is continuing as normal, but parents interested in picking their children up from school are permitted to do so. Here’s what you need to know:
- If your student is in 6th or 8th grade, you can pick them up at the East entrance off Newell Street.
- If your student is in 5th and 7th grade, you can pick them up by coming to the main office.
- Administrators will be waiting outside of the building for these pickups.
- All other dismissals and busing will run as usual.
“Barberton police are going to continue their work to determine the origin and credibility of this anonymous threat,” the school continued in its Facebook post. “At this time, it does not appear the message came from our local area.”
