AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating an active shooter hoax that happened at Coventry High School.
An active shooter threat came in at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, when an individual called the Summit County Sheriff's Office saying he was inside the school and had just shot four students. The caller gave his name and then ended the call.
Following the call, the Summit County Sheriff's Office immediately evacuated the school and began to look for the alleged suspect.
After law enforcement officials conducted a search of the school and the surrounding premises, it was determined that the call was a hoax. At around 3:30 p.m., students were reunited with their parents.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the school by the New Franklin Police Department, Ohio Division of Natural Resources, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Unites States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, New Franklin Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, Lakemore Fire Department, Green Fire Department and the Coventry Fire Department.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau.
