Ravenna woman arrested for aggravated arson in Coventry Township fire at apartment

Officials say that the suspect, Courtney Cooney, had been previously removed from the apartment.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A Ravenna woman has been arrested following an alleged arson incident in Coventry Township that happened on Wednesday night. 

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, at around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 6, they responded to reports of a fire inside an apartment in the 3500 block of South Turkeyfoot Road. 

Upon arrival, firefighters quickly worked to contain the flames while deputies began investigating the cause of the fire. The fire was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported. 

Deputies identified the suspect as 32-year-old Courtney Cooney, who had fled the scene before they arrived.

Authorities determined that Cooney had been previously removed from the apartment.

They say she allegedly pushed an air conditioning unit into the apartment, poured gasoline on furniture and set the fire.

Cooney was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and taken to the Summit County Jail. Officials noted that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
