In a message posted to the school's Parent-Teacher-Student Organization's Facebook page, Principal Allison Bogdan said that walkout comes in response to an alleged incident involving two high school students that is currently under investigation by the school's administration.
"The District takes all allegations of any type of assault or harassment seriously. We are working in cooperation with the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department and the students’ families to conduct the investigation," Bogdan wrote.
As far as the walkout, Bogdan said that students will not face consequences for participating so long as they aren't disruptive. She also said that Cuyahoga Falls Police will assist the school with security to help create a safe environment for students and that students who leave school grounds during school hours will be treated as citizens and expected to abide by local ordinances and state law.
Students who participate in the walkout will also be responsible for completing any assignments missed while doing so. Students who choose not to participate will remain in classes with their teachers, where they will engage in meaningful learning.
"The safety of our students is our top priority, and we encourage students or families members to share any concerns or incidents with a trusted administrator, school counselor, social worker, or member of the staff," she wrote. "Students and families are also encouraged to use the anonymous Stay Safe. Speak Up helpline, mobile app, or website to report any issues that affect student safety."
