TWINSBURG, Ohio — Two elderly people were rescued by first responders after a house caught fire in Twinsburg Township on Thursday evening.
According to a release from the Twinsburg Fire Department, crews were called to respond to a house fire on Marwell Blvd. at approximately 6:23 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, an elderly woman was being escorted from the home by two Summit County Sheriff's deputies and a member of the woman's family.
As crews dealt with heavy smoke and flames, they searched for a second elderly occupant inside the house. The elderly man was brought out by Twinsburg firefighters and taken by Hudson EMS to Akron City Hospital. He was later transferred to the burn unit at Akron Children's Hospital. There is no word yet on the man's condition.
The elderly female, the family member, and two sheriff's deputies were evaluated at the scene by EMS personnel and declined to be taken to the hospital.
The fire was finally brought under control after nearly 45 minutes. Twinsburg crews were assisted by members of the Reminderville, Macedonia, and Hudson fire departments.
Damage to the home is estimated at $100,000. The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted to assist with the investigation.
