MACEDONIA, Ohio — If you have ever wanted an extra set of eyes to watch your home while you're away on vacation, you may be in luck. Some Northeast Ohio police departments are offering vacation house watch programs.
One of those agencies is Macedonia Police Department. They say residents can fill out a form online HERE or contact the department to put their home on a vacation house watch list. Twice during their shifts, officers from the department will go out to the home and either walk around it or drive by depending on what the homeowner requested. Police said there are no time restrictions when it comes to using this program.
"We have snowbirds that fly down to Florida and it's on there for six months or we have people that will go away for a weekend and it's on there for a day or two," said Macedonia Police Lt. Christian Costello.
In June, Brooklyn Police Chief Scott Mielke told Cleveland.com the department has offered a similar program for more than 30 years -- and yet many people aren't aware of the service.
House watch programs are also listed on city sites in Berea and North Canton.
