Macedonia police: Juvenile arrested at scene of Summerfest gunfire no longer considered suspect in shooting

The gun in the juvenile's possession did not match bullet casings police recovered at the scene.

CLEVELAND — The person taken into custody at the scene of the gunfire that disrupted Macedonia's Summerfest earlier this month is no longer considered a suspect in the shooting, police said.

According to Macedonia police, the juvenile who was apprehended at the scene on June 9 did have a gun on him, but the gun did not match up with the bullet casing police recovered at the scene. Police added that the youth was still charged for possessing a weapon as a minor, but is not facing any charges related to the Summerfest shooting.

Authorities are continuing to search for the suspect, described as a man wearing an all-black outfit with a black hoodie. We've also learned there is a $5,000 reward being offered by Summit County Crime Stoppers for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect involved in the shooting.

There were no physical injuries observed or reported following the shooting, the city said.

Last week, the mayor of Macedonia announced that the city would pause all of its seasonal "fests" as a result of the gunfire.

In a letter posted on the city's Facebook page, Mayor Nicholas Molnar wrote that although no one was injured as a result of the "stupidity" that took place at Summerfest, the event has been "tarnished."

The incident in Macedonia came amid a wave of disruptive and in some cases violent incidents at seasonal festivals around Northeast Ohio this summer.

Deputies in Lake County made four arrests at the annual festival at St. Gabriel Parish in Concord Township after "numerous altercations" on the same day as the Macedonia shooting. The previous weekend, police departments in Mayfield Heights and Lyndhurst dealt with a series of incidents involving juveniles at Saint Clare Community Days.
