PORTAGE LAKES, Ohio — Dust off your bathing suit and find your flip-flops because it's almost time for a wintry swim!
The 2024 Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump is set for its 20th year on Saturday, Feb. 24 as hundreds of brave participants plunge into the frigid water at Portage Lakes State Park -- and it's all for a good cause as the event raises money for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

This year's goal was to raise $125,000, which the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank says will provide the equivalent of 375,000 meals throughout its network of 600 food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and programs within its eight-county service area.
Upon checking Friday morning, the event's site shows that goal has already been surpassed with more than $130,400 as of 11:20 a.m.
“The Polar Bear Jump has become a beloved event in our community, and we’re grateful for the individuals and organizations who choose to participate every year,” said Leslie Genovese, director of corporate engagement for the Foodbank. “The event is a unique and fun way people can come together to show their support for the Foodbank and families facing hunger. The event has become a memorable and annual tradition for many, and we are so appreciative of our partnership with the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club who make it happen.”
Participants are asked to arrive for registration / check-in by 12 p.m.
