CLEVELAND — A Mogadore man was sentenced to prison for causing a car crash that killed a 33-year-old woman while under the influence of multiple drugs last year, Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich announced Wednesday.
Daniel Shanaberger, 37, was sentenced to 10-14 years in prison for charges related to the crash that killed 33-year old Ta'Shanna Junius in Akron on March 14, 2023 — just moments after Junius had dropped her daughter off at pre-school. According to investigators, Shanaberger was high on cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, morphine, marijuana and hydrocodone when he crashed into Junius.
"Ta’Shanna was a beloved member of the community, and her death is a tragedy which will be felt for years,” said Prosecutor Kolkovich. “This was a horrible incident and I’m glad to know the defendant will spend a significant time in prison."
Prosecutors said Junius was stopped at a red light on Manchester Road at West Wilbeth Road when Shanaberger's car "slammed" into the back of Junius' car, which then collided with another vehicle, causing serious injuries to that driver.
In June, Shanaberger pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle under the influence. His driver's license was suspended for life.
