AKRON, Ohio — Eric Mendoza, a 41-year-old New Franklin man, learned his fate on Friday.
Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Joy Malek Oldfield sentenced Mendoza to life in prison in connection with the 2022 murder of Jeffrey Fisher.
“Jeffrey Fisher was leaving the scene when Eric Mendoza shot him in the back. I hope that this lengthy prison sentence will provide some comfort to Jeffrey’s family as the person responsible will spend a significant amount of time behind bars,” said Summit County Prosecutor Elliott Kolkovich.
The case dates back to 2022 when authorities say Mendoza shot and killed Fisher as he rode away from Mendoza's Dailey Road home on his motorcycle early in the morning of Sept. 27.
The two had gotten into "a brief verbal dispute" before the shooting, according to officials.
Mendoza will be eligible for parole after 18 years of his sentence.
