AKRON, Ohio — Summit County residents and business owners now have extra time to file damage reports following last Thursday's severe flash flooding.
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency has extended the deadline an additional week to Aug. 21, and tax relief will also be available to those who sustained property damage. A good chunk of the flooding was concentrated around the Greater Akron area, and the city is encouraging its citizens to go through the process.
"I'm grateful to the Ohio EMA for extending the deadline for reports," Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said in a statement. "As our residents and business owners continue to grapple with the aftereffects of this intense storm event, having additional time to file a report of damage will be extremely helpful to them. We continue to support our community in our response and hope to spread the word about this potential assistance opportunity."
Those wishing to fill out the form can either do so on the Summit EMA app or by downloading the form here, while the Summit County Fiscal Office is offering this link to apply for tax relief. According to the city of Akron, there are currently at least 60 homes in need of sanitizing due to sewer backup.
