CLEVELAND — Summit County authorities are searching for suspects involved in an alleged group carjacking at a Sheetz gas station in Coventry Township on Wednesday.
According to a release from the Summit County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old male from Cleveland was arrested in connection to the incident at the Sheetz on West Waterloo Road. Two suspects remain at large.
A 51-year-old man told deputies he was drying his vehicle when three men in an allegedly stolen vehicle pulled up to them. The sheriff's office said three men walked up to the 51-year-old wearing masks and flashing handguns before allegedly demanding the victim's car keys and shoes.
According to the sheriff's office, the suspects left the Sheetz in the victim's car before stopping at another gas station in Akron. Officers from the Akron Police Department tracked the suspects to a different gas station on Lovers Lane. The sheriff's office said the three suspects ran away from officers when they approached the vehicle.
The 17-year-old, who deputies say was the suspect driver, was eventually apprehended and charged with aggravated robbery. He was transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
The sheriff's office said it recovered "one of the firearms used in the robbery" from the suspect vehicle.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the remaining suspects to call the sheriff's office at 330-643-2131.
