AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office is mourning the unexpected loss of one of its own, with officials confirming Deputy Jacob Nees has died following an off-duty vehicle crash over the weekend.
In a Tuesday Facebook post, authorities said Nees joined the department just two months ago after graduating from the academy. An alum of the University of Mount Union with a criminal justice degree, Nees previously worked as a parole officer and also played drums for a number of local bands.
"Deputy Nees will be greatly missed by our Office," the department wrote. "We extend our deepest condolences to the Nees family and to Jacob's friends and loved ones."
