SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- On June 3, police officers responded to an Onondago Trail address for a report of a dead man.
Upon arrival, officers found David Matwiju, 64, dead inside the home.
Officers were alarmed at the living conditions of the home and the physical condition of Matwiju. He appeared emaciated, un-kempt, and was wearing only an adult diaper.
The living conditions of the home were deplorable and cockroach infested. Matwiju, a Vietnam veteran, suffered from health problems dating back to 2011. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene and took custody of his body.
At the time of his examination, he weighed approximately 84 pounds.
Detectives have charged his wife, Dorothy Matwiju, 56, with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person, a felony.
