Twinsburg student will be charged after sending threats to multiple city schools on social media, superintendent says

All Twinsburg schools were put in 'hold in place' after the district was notified of the threat.

TWINSBURG, Ohio — A student who allegedly sent threats to multiple Twinsburg schools on social media has been identified and will be charged in connection to those threats, according to a letter to parents from Superintendent Kathi Powers.

All five of the schools in the Twinsburg City School District were ordered to hold in place once the officials learned of the threats.

According to Powers' letter, RB Chamberlin Middle School and Twinsburg High School were named in the post from the student. Details on the specific threats made have not been revealed at this time.

The full letter to parents can be seen below.

Dear Tiger Family:

I am sending this message to let you know that the individual responsible for sending the social media post which caused such great concern today has been identified. The individual is a student from RB Chamberlin Middle School.  I appreciate the expeditious work done by Chief Tom Mason, Detective Alan Ternosky, SROs Nate Milhoan and Craig Bremner, and the Twinsburg Police Department as well as by the officers from the Solon Police Department who collaborated to quickly identify the student.  The student will be charged by the Twinsburg Police Department and will also received consequences as algned with our Student Code of Conduct.

This incident is extremely disappointing and very frustrating.  It caused great concern today both within our school district and throughout several communities.  It caused unnecessary worry for our students, our staff members, and our parents.  If your child reports being anxious because of today's events, please reach out to your school principal who will connect your child with our counseling services.

I also respectfully request our parents to spend some time this evening discussing this incident with your child and the reasons why social media should never be used to threaten or draw unnecessary concern.

Thank you for your patience and for your understanding as we worked through today's situation.  All afterschool activities will proceed as scheduled. As always, I will remain as transparent as possible in these types of matters so that you have the information you need for your family.

Sincerely,
Kathi Powers, Superintendent
