“It’s a really stupid story.”
Holland Christensen of Chattanooga, Tenn. wanted a tattoo on her ankle that said “My true north” in Chinese. But she made the mistake of asking the internet to translate it for her…and instead, ended up with “Jeremy Lin” permanently on her body.
“I realized it didn’t say [my true north] when I got to thinking about it a few days later,” said Christensen. “Like, hey maybe I should check this.”
So she asked someone on the same language translation website she had used before… and they told her the truth.
“Then I copied it and pasted it into Google translate and there it was,” she laughed. “I just wanted to throw something across the room.”
But then she decided to become the Charlotte Hornets player’s number one fan.
“I swear, I’ve watched like, every single game he’s played,” she said. “And then I watched every video of him I could find on Youtube, basically.”
She made it to a Hornets game, but didn’t get to meet her new hero. But after the story went viral, it caught the eye of one Jeremy Lin.
The player took to Twitter and Reddit to share an image of him with his new “tattoo” and asked “Saw this tattoo online and copied it, anyone know what it means?"

The Hornets take on the Miami Heat Sunday at 5:30.
As for Christensen, who normally spends her days working with adolescents in mental health, she plans to stay a part of the “Linsanity.”
“As long as he’s like, a good person, I’ll keep it,” she said. “It’s really embarrassing, and now it’s like ‘oh my embarrassment is out there for everyone to see!”
Christensen said she’ll be at games three and four on the 23rd and 25th in Charlotte, N.C.
