UNZIPPED | Exploring the coolest places in Avon Lake: Unzipping the 44012 zip code

Avon Lake is celebrating its 200th birthday!

AVON LAKE, Ohio -- The 44012 is a small town with a big view of Lake Erie.

The only thing bigger than the view in Avon Lake? Their love for Shoreman football! Fans pack the stadium to cheer on the hometown team every fall Friday night!

Supporters of sports and our servicemen and women, they pay homage to our vets at Veterans Memorial Park. It's a place where families come and stay, at least that's what Avon Lake native Jill Ralston has done.

“Avon Lake is a great community. We moved here 30 years ago when our kids were little. They were raised here and went to school here.”

People stick around for the schools, recreation and great local spots to eat and drink. Fratellos Italian Restaurant is a favorite for fine dining. Plus, Avon Lakers frequent Close Quarters on Lake Road. The dive bar's name is really quite fitting as it's only 600 square feet -- which makes it one of the smallest bars in the entire country.

Avon Lake knows how to take care of their furry friends, too. Pet owners can drop by Paws by the Lake. It's a pet resort and doggie daycare.

This year the Avon Lake community will be celebrating it's 200th birthday. A community spot that has been there for 83 of those years is Klinkshirn Wineries. Their roots have been planted in this soil since the 1930s.

“When prohibition was repealed my grandfather fired up a grape press and started putting juice in the basement of the house," owner Lee Klinkshim said.

They have been going strong ever since. Lee is a third generation wine maker and if it is up to him, he won't be the last in Avon Lake.

"We will continue to be here for a long time."
