WILLARD -- Authorities say a hostage that had been shot last night inside a Family Dollar on West Walton Street has died.

The victim, who has been identified as Kimberly Kelley, is reportedly a mother of three from New Washington. She was in her mid 40's.

According to Willard Police Chief Mark Holden, Shawn Shuett, 19, the alleged suspect, is dead. He is originally from Mansfield, but police didn't have a current address for him.

Police say the hostage situation began around 5:18 p.m. Wednesday. Shuett was armed with a .22-caliber rifle.

Once inside, he allegedly took Kelley and two female store employees hostage.

Police say a motive is unclear and that Shuett told the hostages that his actions were random.

Chief Holden said, "I've not had a hostage situation like this in 20 years."

Three hours and two negotiators later, Shuett agreed to let the hostages go. Then, within 20 seconds, one of the hostages came out screaming that Shuett had began shooting.

Police stormed the building, and found Shuett and Kelley with gunshot wounds.

Shuett, who police say initially only demanded Chinese food and his mother, died of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Police say he had threatened to kill his mother earlier in the day.

Willard is located in Huron County, about 35 miles south of Sandusky.

The Family Dollar is setting up counseling for employees.
