4 people, including 3 teens, taken to hospital after Euclid police chase ends with crash in Cleveland

A police officer was also injured in the initial confrontation with the suspect driver, but was eventually treated and released.

CLEVELAND — An investigation is underway after four people, including three teens, were taken to the hospital after a Euclid police chase ended with a crash in Cleveland's Glenville neighborhood.

Euclid police say the incident began on Monday, Sept. 30, at around 7:30 p.m. when officers were alerted by a FLOCK camera of a stolen Kia Sportage driving on St. Clair Avenue.

Officers located the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Rockwell Drive. However, the suspect driver did not stop and fled onto Babbitt Road.

"Shortly after, the stolen vehicle was located stopped at a red light on Euclid Avenue and Highland Rd. One Officer attempted to block the Kia with his police cruiser and approached the driver’s side of the suspect vehicle on foot," said Euclid police in a press release.

The suspect then turned the Kia toward the officer and struck the officer as he sped away a second time. Euclid police noted that the officer was not seriously injured and was later treated and released from an area hospital.

Police continued to pursue the Kia as it fled into Cleveland. The stolen Kia eventually crashed into another vehicle, a Kia Soul, near the intersection of East 105th Street and St. Clair Avenue.

Following the crash, a Euclid police cruiser drove through an oil slick caused by the crash and slid into the Kia Soul.

A 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the stolen car, fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Another 15-year-old boy, the suspect driver, and a 14-year-old girl, a passenger, remained at the scene of the crash.

All three juveniles, as well as the driver of the Kia Soul, were taken to the hospital.

At the scene, Euclid police located a loaded 9mm handgun, which was stolen out of the City of Euclid.

Officials noted that charges will be filed against the suspect driver and male juvenile passenger.

As of Tuesday morning, all four individuals were still hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses tell 3News one vehicle appeared to be going at least 80 mph.
