WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — On Friday, 3News spoke to a friend of the suspect accused of killing three people at Mentor Green Mobile Estates.
The friend and resident of the Lake County mobile home park says Jason Norris called her around 4:30 p.m. Minutes later, Norris allegedly shot and killed three people and injured one more.
"None of those people deserved to be shot," the friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, said.
Following a standoff with law enforcement, Norris was found dead in his trailer with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. On Friday, Mentor police confirmed Norris had served in the U.S. Army until 2002.
"He was retired at 40," Norris' friend said. "I was like, 'Why are you retired at 40?' and he said that he had PTSD."
Authorities say they responded to Norris' property Thursday morning for a call about cameras pointed at his house. However, officers did not find anything illegal.
Norris' friend told WKYC the cameras, as well as the eviction notice, may have affected Norris' PTSD.
Norris moved into the mobile home community in 2016, according to his friend. She told 3News Norris was kind to her.
"I never thought he was going to shoot anybody," she added. "I didn't think he would shoot Laura."
Laura Colon, the property manager of the mobile home park, was among those killed Thursday afternoon. Police say Norris faced eviction from the property in Willoughby.
"She was just trying to do her job," Norris' friend said of Colon.
Norris' friend remains shocked and saddened by Thursday's shooting.
"None of those people deserved to be shot," she said. "I just want people to be aware of what these people go through. Jason, I never thought he would do something like this."
According to Mentor police, body camera footage from the incident will be released next week.
