Multiple flights in and out of Cleveland delayed, diverted due to strong wind

Hopkins reported wind gusts of up to 67 miles per hour earlier this afternoon.

The strong winds throughout Northeast Ohio Sunday are affecting the skies in more ways than one.

Multiple flights both in and out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport have been delayed, canceled, or even diverted due to the conditions (you can view the list here). Only two out of nine departures have left on time since 4:10 p.m., with one to Washington, D.C. delayed by more than two hours.

Six flights have been diverted to other airports such as Cincinnati, Columbus, and Pittsburgh. Three of those flights later took off again from their diverted locations and arrived in Cleveland safely, albeit hours late (one flight from Houston came in more than five hours behind schedule). No flight has landed on time at Hopkins since 1 p.m.

Some of the flights coming into Cleveland have had to touch and go on the runway before landing due to the conditions. Airport officials tell us this is standard procedure when winds are this strong.
