Citizens of Butler, Pennsylvania, still in shock following assassination attempt against Donald Trump

'Butler's a great town, and it just sucked the air out of it,' resident Nathan Gutshall lamented. 'It's sad.'

BUTLER, Pennsylvania — Security remains tight Monday at the Butler Farm Show grounds in Butler, Pennsylvania, following an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at a Saturday rally.

Pennsylvania State Police are still stationed all over the grounds, not letting anyone inside.

"I was horrified," Bill Bailey told 3News, recalling the terror when the gunshots rang out.

Bailey is the owner of Get Your Trump Gear Here, a traveling tent selling Trump merchandise wherever the former president hosts a rally. Bailey was posted right outside the campaign event Saturday.

"I turned to see a whole crowd of people running this way yelling and screaming, 'Get down, there’s a shooter,'" he shared.

Following the shooting, Bailey says investigators wouldn't let him back to his tent until Monday morning as they investigated the vicinity of the grounds and the surrounding area. Bailey adds this was an inconvenience to him, because he would have been in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention by now.

However, he says his spirits remain high, especially after seeing how Trump reacted in the moments after the shooting.

"The three fist pumps and the 'Fight! Fight! Fight!' (Trump yelled) and the determination in his face," Bailey described. "It was anger, it was determination, it was anything but fear in his face, and I think his base is even more determined now."

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania State Police are still blocking off all entrances of the Butler Farm Show grounds, a trooper telling WKYC that the FBI is still investigating. Many residents of Butler also say the town has felt dark and sad since the assassination attempt.

"Butler's a great town, and it just sucked the air out of it," resident Nathan Gutshall lamented. "Like, I don't care if you’re for Trump, Biden, whoever. It just took the life out of everything. Like, this is the state of the world we live in right now. It's sad."

3News asked a Pennsylvania state trooper how long they'll be securing the grounds, and he said that he was told it would be until at least Thursday.
