CLEVELAND — We're all shocked by what we're seeing in the Middle East as the war between Israel and the Hamas militant group continues.
The images flooding the internet, social media and TV are horrifying. Parents are being advised to keep tabs on how much their kids are seeing or shut off social media completely.
Little ones need to know they are not in danger, so if they're anxious, it's important to tell them they are safe and point out those who are trying to help.
Honesty is always best along with age-appropriate language. Don't diminish how anyone feels or is dealing with the conflict. Everyone processes things differently, so hold your judgement and keep in mind kids are watching how you react and taking their cues from you.
It's OK not to have all the answers. Tell your kids you'll look it up and you could even use that as a learning opportunity for older kids to search for answers together. Just make sure to get information from reputable sources.
