CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has provided some details about a memory stick failure that impacted the counting of over 900 ballots at a polling place in Bay Village.
During the post-election ballot audit which began last week, county officials discovered a discrepancy between the unofficial results reported from Bay Presbyterian Church's polling location and the audit scan.
Specifically, a total of 903 ballots were not counted.
In its investigation, election officials found that the USB memory stick on one of the ballot scanners was damaged and did not report results.
There are several candidate contests that are impacted by the uncounted ballots: Bay Village Council Ward 1, Rocky River Municipal Court Judge, and Bay Village School Board Member.
Cuyahoga County election leaders say from the audit scan, the 903 ballots will be included in the official results that will be certified on Nov. 28. The certified results will also include additional vote-by-mail ballots that arrived in the mail during the four-day period after the election, plus provisional ballots that are now being processed.
