CLEVELAND — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is warning Democratic officials that President Joe Biden may not be able to appear on the state's general election ballot because of the timing of the Democratic National Convention, according to NBC News.
The warning came in a letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters obtained by NBC. In the letter LaRose, a Republican, writes, “The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to convene on August 19, 2024, which occurs more than a week after the August 7 deadline to certify a presidential candidate to the office.”
According to NBC, LaRose told Walters that in order to correct the issue, the Democratic National Committee would either have to reschedule the convention to before Ohio's August 7 deadline or get the Ohio legislature to enact an exemption to the "statutory requirement." That would have to be done by May 9.
ABC News was first to report on LaRose's warning.
Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo and state Senate Minority Leader Sen. Nickie Antonio were copied on the letter, NBC reported.
