Within minutes of Cleveland mayoral candidate Justin Bibb claiming victory over City Council President Kevin Kelley, and Kelley issuing a concession speech, reactions began pouring in from all around the city, the state, and the country.
Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters released the following statement late Tuesday evening:
“Congratulations to Justin Bibb on his hard-fought victory tonight. Mayor-elect Bibb understands the challenges Cleveland faces because he’s lived them. He will fight to make sure every Clevelander has the opportunity to thrive by investing in job training, improving public safety and strengthening city services for every neighborhood,” said Chair Walters.
Former candidate for Ohio's 11th Congressional District, Tariq Shabazz, also weighed in on Bibb's win, congratulating the mayor-elect and pushing for change.
The Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund congratulated Mayor-elect Bibb on his win Tuesday night on Twitter, writing "We can't wait to support Mayor-Elect Bibb in securing a healthier environment for all #CLE residents through bold #climateaction and #environmentaljustice."
Cleveland State University Provost Laura Bloomberg congratulated the CSU alum on his win, as well.
As the night went on, reactions continued to pour in from Cleveland residents and business owners.
"Congrats @JustinMBibb @BibbForCLE!!! #CLECantWait," said Carlie Eisenstat, owner of Pour Cleveland.
"I have service again…. And I’m SO FREAKING EXCITED!! We elected a good man as the next Mayor of Cleveland!!!! @BibbForCLE so happy for you," said Pete Marek, a downtown Cleveland resident, on Twitter.
