CLEVELAND — September 24 is National Voter Registration Day!

This day serves as a reminder that different states have different rules for how and when you have to register to vote in order to have your voice heard in upcoming elections.

In Ohio, you have to register or update your voter registration no later than 30 days prior to an election.

The next general election in the Buckeye State is November 5, so that makes the deadline October 7 to make sure your registration is up to date so you don't miss out on casting your ballot.

You can register to vote online in Ohio at this link with an Ohio driver’s license or Ohio identification card number, your name, date of birth, address, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If you're not sure about whether you need register, or where to do it, NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org has a tool on its website that you can use to help you figure it out.

The site will help you find out about voter registration deadlines by state, voting times and locations, whether or not you’re eligible to register, and more.

Vote.gov also has a simple drop-down menu that tells you which states let you register to vote online and redirects you to those states' websites to do it.
