President Trump offers Mike DeWine 'Total Endorsement' for Ohio governor

"He is an outstanding man who loves his State – and always produces big...."

President Donald Trump left no doubt Tuesday as to who he supported for Ohio's next governor, offering his "Total Endorsement" to Republican state Attorney General Mike DeWine while also ridiculing his opponent, Democratic former Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Richard Cordray.

"[Mike] will be a great Governor for the People of Ohio," the president, who already endorsed DeWine back in May, wrote on Twitter.. "He is an outstanding man who loves his State – and always produces big...."

In a subsequent tweet, Trump also bashed Cordray as a "Clone of Pocahontas," referring to his derogatory name for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He claimed Cordray, if elected, would "let you down, just like he did when he destroyed the government agency that he ran."

The most recent poll from Emerson College showed Cordray leading DeWine by three points. FiveThirtyEight also has the race listed as a "toss-up."

Cordray campaigned in Youngstown with former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday, while DeWine will hold a rally with current Vice President Mike Pence Wednesday in Mansfield. President Trump will also make a stop in Cleveland this coming Monday, the day before the election.
