Unofficial results show Parma's pit bull ban being upheld by 21 votes

However, some ballots have still not yet been counted. A recount could also be possible.

With 100% of precincts reporting, current results show Parma's controversial pit bull ban being upheld by a mere 21 votes out of more than 11,000 ballots cast.

However, election officials stress to WKYC the election result is not yet official, as there are still several provisional and mail-in ballots that have not yet been counted. Technically, the race is still too close to officially call.

Should the current tally hold up, the decision to uphold the ban would win by a margin of just 0.18%, which would be narrow enough to trigger an automatic recount under Ohio law. However, sources stress to WKYC that it is still too early to even discuss a possible recount.

Parma chose to put the issue on the May 7 ballot back in February, and since then it has divided residents across the city. Some even said the wording of the ballot measure (known as Issue 10) was confusing, and made it unclear as to how supporters or opponents should vote ("yes" would repeal the ban, while "no" would keep it in place).

Other area municipalities (such as Lakewood and Mansfield) have already repealed similar breed-specific bans over the past two years).
