LAKE CITY, Fla. — A nine-year-old girl is hospitalized in serious condition after she was struck by a car while trying to cross the road to get on the school bus.
The little girl's mom, Tiara Thomas, created a GoFundMe and wrote that she watched her daughter Aubrielle get hit by a car and "thrown approximately 50 feet into the air, landing in a ditch."
Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the girl walked onto a road in Lake City Thursday when she was hit by a 19-year-old girl. She was transported to US Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
Thomas wrote that Aubrielle was crossing the street to board the school bus that morning after she took her to the bus stop.
"My child was killed on impact & her bus driver had to perform CPR to bring her back to life," she said. "She has sustained LIFE CHANGING injuries."
Some of her injuries include her left ankle being destroyed with her fibula and tibia bones snapped in half and her growth plate being destroyed. A "gaping hole" was also left in her head. Thomas said her daughter was in the ICU for 72 hours after being in surgery to close up a hole and reconstruct her ankle.
Thomas said Aubrielle might even have to get her foot amputated and will possibly face severe migraines for the rest of her life. The mom set up the GoFundMe page to assist with the long road to recovery since she cannot go to work and her daughter cannot go back to school until she is fully recovered.
