CLEVELAND -- WKYC has learned new details about Thursday night's shooting into a Cleveland fire station.
Authorities now say a firefighter narrowly missed being hit by a bullet.
According to police, officers were called to Firehouse 20 at 3765 Pearl Road around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night for shots fired. Firefighters told police they had just parked a fire vehicle and were exiting when they heard the gunshots. The firefighters did not see any suspects.
Police say one shot went through a front window of the firehouse and exited through a rear window. The other shot struck the windshield moulding on the front of a fire truck.
Department spokesman Larry Gray is describing Thursday night's shooting as random. He told Channel 3 he would expect an increased police presence in the area.
The Cleveland Police Department and the Cleveland Fire department's Investigation Unit are investigating. The police Scientific Investigation Unit processed the scene.
Police add that they received another call for shots fired in the area of the same fire station on January 1. Officers reported, however, no shots were heard upon arrival on scene and there was no evidence of damage to property or any injury to individuals. The incident was recorded but a report was not filed.
