AKRON, Ohio — Our 3 Questions segment on 'What's New' is back! A student reporter from the I Promise School News Team interviews Carla Chapman, the first female to have her jersey retired by St. Vincent-St. Mary in any sport.
Carla Chapman graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary in 1981 and was inducted into the St. Vincent-St. Mary Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. One year later, she was inducted into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame.
Recently, Chapman sat down with a I Promise School student reporter to explain how it feels to have her jersey retired at St. Vincent-St. Mary along with LeBron James’ jersey. During the interview, Chapman recalls being named a Parade Magazine All-American during her senior year and shares advice to young athletes. Chapman also explains the project she is working on currently as the Chief Diversity Officer at Akron Public Schools.
“3 Questions” can be seen on “What’s New” at 4pm on Fridays. The interviews are recorded at the Kaulig Media Lab at the I Promise School. The project is a partnership between Kaulig Companies, LeBron James Family Foundation & WKYC Studios.
