Taco Bell unleashes $1 menu

It's the latest change to the fast food chain's menu.
Taco Bell introduces $1 menu.

Has Taco Bell got a deal for you.

Actually, 11 of them. And they're all a buck. On Monday, the chain launches a new Dollar Cravings menu nationally, directly aimed at stealing market share from McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King.

Dollar deals are often not that any more. Last year, McDonald's launched its so-called Dollar Menu & More Menu with some items priced up to $2.

So, what's Taco Bell got for a buck? Among the 11 items: Shredded Chicken Mini Quesadilla; Beefy Fritos Burrito; Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito; and Triple Layer Nachos.

It was Taco Bell that arguably offered the fast-food industry's first real value menu in 1988, when it rolled out items priced at 59 cents, 79 cents and 99 cents. Two decades later, in the midst of the 2008 recession, it rolled out a similar "Why Pay More?" menu with items priced at 79 cents, 89 cents and 99 cents.

Now, six years later, it's back, again, but with commodity prices up, its unable to push below the magical $1 range.

Not to worry if you've got a sweet tooth, but are on a budget. Also going for a buck on the new menu: Cinnabon Delights, Cinnamon Twists and Caramel Apple Empanada.
